The holidays are a special time of year where everyone seems to be a bit more jolly. But one of the best ways to spread even more cheer is with great holiday decorations that everyone can enjoy. If you like to sit down with your kids and make your holiday decorations, then you’re in luck, because today’s blog is dedicated to holiday arts and crafts. In this article, the childcare professionals at Vonkids will go over some of the crafts you can do at home to help make your holiday even more special. All of these can be made with everyday objects or can be easily mended with a simple trip to your local crafting store. So, without further delay, let’s get into crafts you can make to brighten up your holiday.

Pine Cone Reindeer

You’ll need:

  • Pinecones (real ones or from the store)
  • Pipe cleaner (black or brown)
  • Googly eyes
  • Red crafting balls
  • String or ribbon
  • Hot glue gun & glue

To make these one of a kind ornaments, simply gather up a few pinecones from your backyard or local park, or you can get some artificial ones from the crafting store. Break out your hot glue gun and get it nice and hot. Once it’s ready, take your favorite pinecone, with the bottom/flat facing you, and glue on a red crafting ball in the middle. Then add two dots of glue just above the red ball and apply two googly eyes. Use your pipecleaner to make two antlers, either by bending the pipe cleaners or by cutting and pasting them into place, then glue those antlers on top of the pinecone. Glue on some string or ribbon in a loop and leave it to dry. Hang these ornaments from your tree or anywhere else you want to spread some holiday cheer.

Gingerbread House Cards

You’ll need:

  • Lots of multi-colored construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue/glue sticks
  • Pens, markers, and/or colored pencils

Make your holiday cards this year with this great crafting idea. Get lots of construction paper with many different colors. Cut out basic shapes for your kids to use, such as a house, some gumdrop circles, a candy cane door, licorice mailbox, etc. Help your kids fold their cards and oversee as they choose and glue different shapes on top. Once they’re done, write a holiday message inside and let your children add their own ideas as well. When your cards are nice and dry, put them in an envelope and send them out!

Other holiday crafting ideas:

  • Pipe cleaner garland
  • CD snowman ornaments
  • Tissue paper candy canes
  • Reindeer picture frame
  • Washer snowman ornament
