There are many fun things to do and places to visit in Calgary. In our previous post, we talked about a few of them. This post continues on with Vonkids’ list of things to do in Calgary when your kids are out of daycare over the weekend.

6. Visit Heritage Park

This living history museum has been attracting guests for more than 50 years. You and your kids will learn all about Calgary’s history from the 1860s to the 1950s. With more than 180 attractions and exhibits, this park showcases some of the fascinating history of Western Canada. There are also amusement rides, including a ferris wheel and carousel.

7. Drumheller Badlands

Do your kids love dinosaurs? They may enjoy a trip east of Calgary to the Drumheller Badlands. The Drumheller Badlands are famous for the large amount of dinosaur bones that have been discovered there. The Royal Tyrrel Museum showcases some of these fossil finds inside its Dinosaur Hall. It also is a great example of the eroded, dry landscape that is unique to Western Canada. This museum is open year-round, and has activities for kids like making fossil replicas, guided hikes, and digging in a realistic quarry.

8. Calaway Park

Calaway Park is Western Canada’s biggest outdoor theme park. Calaway Park has something for everyone — from family-friendly 3D films to roller coasters, you’re sure to find something your kids will enjoy.

9. Riley Park

Looking for something a bit more peaceful? Located in northwestern Calgary, Riley Park is a scenic, conveniently located park that has some amazing flowers in the spring and summer. The park also features a wading pool, playground, picnic tables, and a rock garden!

10. The Central Library

The Central Library has recently opened its doors to the public as of November 2018. This ultra-modern building has the Light Rail running through the bottom floor. Not only is the building awesome to behold and explore, but there are also regular readings and events for kids, not to mention an entire children’s book section for your little ones to pick their own story. The Central Library can help inspire a love of learning in your kids.

11. Calgary Tower

Want to get a far-reaching, 360-degree view of Calgary? Visit Calgary Tower! Calgary Tower was completed in 1968, so it is now over 50 years old. Your kids will have a blast looking out and trying to find where their home is from far above. You might even be able to see one of our many Vonkids child care facilities from up there, as well.
